On October 13, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping met with King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia in Phnom Penh.

Xi Jinping spoke highly of the time-honored China-Cambodia friendship. He stressed that the traditional friendship between China and Cambodia was forged and carefully nurtured by Chairman Mao Zedong, Premier Zhou Enlai and other older generation of Chinese leaders and King Father Norodom Sihanouk. King Father Norodom Sihanouk, who was deeply respected and loved by the Chinese people, left an indelible mark in the history of China-Cambodia friendship. In recent years, China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership has deeply developed, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples. China cherishes its special friendship with the Cambodian royal family and attaches great importance to developing relations with Cambodia. China is ready to work with Cambodia to unswervingly push forward China-Cambodia friendship cause and deepen bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperation so as to achieve common development and prosperity and better benefit the two peoples. China will always be a good partner and good friend of Cambodia.

On behalf of the Cambodian royal family, government and people, Norodom Sihamoni warmly welcomed President Xi Jinping's visit and thanked the Chinese government and people for their long-term and profound friendship and kindness to the Cambodian royal family as well as the strong support to the economic and social development of Cambodia. Norodom Sihamoni said that the Cambodian side is satisfied with the achievements of cooperation and exchanges between Cambodia and China in politics, economy, people-to-people and cultural engagement and other fields. It is believed that President Xi Jinping's visit this time will deepen the existing sound bilateral relations and promote China-Cambodia cooperation for more achievements. The Cambodian side is willing to work with China to constantly carry forward Cambodia-China friendship forged by older generation of leaders of both countries, so as to better develop Cambodia-China relations.

Before the meeting, Xi Jinping attended the grand welcoming ceremony held by Norodom Sihamoni in the Royal Palace.

Before the welcoming ceremony started, streets leading to the palace and the square outside the palace were crowded with thousands of local people. They held national flags of China and Cambodia, portraits of the two heads of state and bouquets, warmly welcoming the arrival of Chinese distinguished guests.

At about 3:15 p.m. local time, Xi Jinping arrived at the square in front of the Royal Palace and was welcomed by King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia at the parking place. Cambodian youths presented jasmine bracelets to Xi Jinping. The two heads of state stepped on the reviewing stand. The military band played national anthems of both China and Cambodia. Xi Jinping inspected the guard of honor in the company of Norodom Sihamoni. After the inspection, Xi Jinping shook hands with chief Cambodian officials while Norodom Sihamoni shook hands with Chinese delegation members.

After the meeting, accompanied by Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk of Cambodia, Xi Jinping presented a flower basket to the statue of King Father Norodom Sihanouk.
