Xi Jinping Holds Talks with Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia The Two Leaders Agree that Both Countries will Continue to Be Good Friends with High-level Mutual Trust, Good Partners with All Sincerity and Community of Common Destiny Sharing Weal and Woe

On October 13, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping held talks in Phnom Penh with Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia. Both sides spoke highly of China-Cambodia traditional friendship, exchanged in-depth views on deepening bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership under the new situation and international and regional issues of common concern, reached broad consensus and jointly decided to well safeguard and carry forward bilateral friendship, so as to promote bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to a new level.

Xi Jinping stressed that bilateral friendship, jointly forged and elaborately cultivated by older generations of Chinese and Cambodian leaders has grown even stronger as time passes by. At present, bilateral relations are showing a positive momentum of development, with continuously enhancing political mutual trust, fruitful outcomes from economic cooperation and closer coordination in multilateral affairs. China always treasures the traditional friendship between the two countries, and stands ready to work with Cambodia to constantly enrich the connotation of bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, so as to bring more tangible benefits to both peoples.

Praising the political and social stability, rapid economic development, livelihood improvement and rise of international status of Cambodia, Xi Jinping expressed that it is believed that the Cambodian government will certainly lead its people to build a more prosperous country. China firmly supports Cambodia in pursuing a development path that suits its national conditions, and is willing to continue to provide assistance within its own capacity for Cambodia’s national construction.

Hun Sen expressed that Cambodia and China are good friends who enjoy a high level of mutual trust. The two sides have always understood and supported each other on issues concerning respective development and of major concerns. Cambodia thanks China for its long-term assistance and adherence to taking the inheritance of bilateral traditional friendship which was forged by both leaders of previous generations as an important mission. Cambodia is willing to join hands with China to take President Xi Jinping's visit as an opportunity to strengthen Cambodia-China friendship and deepen bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

The two leaders agreed to consolidate bilateral traditional friendship, vigorously promote comprehensive strategic cooperation and let the two countries continue to be good friends with high-level mutual trust, good partners with all sincerity and a community of common destiny sharing weal and woe.

The two sides agreed to maintain the sound tradition of high-level mutual visits and exchanges, strengthen high-level strategic communication, guide the development of bilateral relations in the new period, enhance cooperation between governments, parliaments and political parties, deepen experience exchanges on state governance and administration, and expand collaboration in diplomacy, law enforcement and security.

The two sides agreed to speed up the docking of their development strategies, formulate and well implement a cooperation guideline on jointly advancing the "Belt and Road" construction. The two countries will take measures to expand the scale of bilateral trade, strengthen cooperation in production capacity, investment, agriculture, water conservancy, infrastructure construction, energy, telecommunication, industry, marine sector and other areas, and continuously well implement the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone and other cooperation projects.

Both sides agreed to expand communication and cooperation in such areas as science and technology, education, culture, cultural relics, health and tourism, reinforce non-governmental, especially youth, friendly exchanges, groom successors of China-Cambodia friendship and cement the public opinion foundation of bilateral friendship.

Both sides agreed to jointly advance China-ASEAN cooperation and step up communication and coordination within multilateral frameworks including the United Nations, the Asia-Europe Meeting, the East Asia Cooperation and the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, so as to safeguard the common interests of the two countries and developing countries.

After the talks, both leaders jointly witnessed the signing of several bilateral cooperation documents covering diplomacy, the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative, production capacity cooperation, investment, water conservancy, news, marine sector and others, and jointly attended the inauguration ceremony for a Chinese studies center in Phnom Penh.

Both sides issued the Joint Statement of the People's Republic of China and the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Before the talks, Xi Jinping laid a wreath at the Independence Monument of Cambodia.
