2016-10-14 15:38

On October 14, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping arrived in Dhaka, starting his state visit to the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

When Xi Jinping’s special plane entered the airspace of Bangladesh, fighter jets of Bangladesh Air Force took off to escort the plane. At about 11:40 a.m. local time, the special plane arrived at the Sharjah International Airport. When Xi Jinping stepped out of the cabin door, a 21-gun salute was fired. President Abdul Hamid of Bangladesh and major cabinet ministers of the Bangladeshi government greeted Xi Jinping beside the gangway ladder, extending warm welcome to his visit. Bangladeshi children presented flowers to Xi Jinping.

Abdul Hamid held a welcoming ceremony for Xi Jinping at the airport. The two heads of state stepped on the reviewing stand. The military band played the national anthems of both China and Bangladesh. Xi Jinping, accompanied by Abdul Hamid, reviewed the guard of honor.

Xi Jinping extended his sincere greetings and best wishes to the Bangladeshi people. Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Bangladesh enjoy a long-standing traditional friendship. China-Bangladesh relations have achieved constant progress since the establishment of diplomatic relationship between the two countries 41 years ago. The friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Bangladesh not only serve the interests of both countries and peoples, but also have made positive contributions to peace, stability and development in the region as a whole. China attaches great importance to its relations with Bangladesh and is ready to join hands with the country to lift bilateral relations and practical cooperation to a higher level. I look forward to exchanging in-depth and extensive views with Bangladeshi leaders on bilateral relationship and other issues of common concern, so as to draw up the blueprint for bilateral cooperation and jointly open up a new chapter for bilateral relations.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and other delegation members arrived by the same plane.

H.E. Ma Mingqiang, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh greeted them at the airport as well.

Xi Jinping arrived in Bangladesh after he concluded his state visit to Cambodia. Upon his departure from Cambodia, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Royal Palace Prince Kong Sam Ol, Prince Norodom Chakrapong, Princess Norodom Arunrasmy and other members of the royal family as well as government officials saw him off at the airport. Xi Jinping bade farewell with them one by one. Holding the portraits of leaders of the two countries, local people, waiting at both sides of the road leading to the airport, waved the national flags of the two countries and flower bouquets to warmly see off the Chinese delegation.

Before Xi Jinping left Cambodia, Prime Minister Hun Sen paid a special visit to the hotel where he stayed to bid warm farewell. Hun Sen congratulated Xi Jinping on the complete success of his state visit to Cambodia, saying that he believes that the visit will deepen bilateral practical cooperation in all fields and benefit the two countries and two peoples. Xi Jinping pointed out that I have exchanged in-depth views with Cambodian leaders, witnessed the tremendous achievements from Cambodia’s national construction and fruitful results from China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic cooperation, and felt the profound friendship between the Chinese and Cambodian people. It is believed that under the joint efforts of both sides, China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership will certainly keep moving forward.

Bangladesh is the second stop of Xi Jinping’s visit this time. Xi Jinping will also travel to Goa of India for the 8th BRICS Summit.
