On October 15, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Goa of India with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the development momentum of China-India relations is encouraging. A healthy and stable China-India relationship is conducive not only to both countries' development, but to safeguarding reasonable interests of developing countries in global governance and the international system. We should constantly enrich the connotation of China-India strategic cooperative partnership, keep to the general direction of bilateral relations in line with the fundamental interests of the two peoples, and maintain high-level communication and dialogues and exchanges at all levels, so as to expand consensus, improve mutual trust and deepen cooperation. Both countries should raise the level of exchanges and cooperation in various fields and continue to push forward cooperation in major projects such as railway and industrial parks. The two countries should expand the public opinion foundation for bilateral friendship by boosting exchanges between political parties, local governments, think tanks, cultural bodies and media organizations. Both sides should also support each other in participating in regional affairs and enhance cooperation within frameworks including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation and the East Asia Summit.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the Chinese side is willing to work with India to carry on the positive momentum of the G20 Hangzhou Summit, push the 8th BRICS Summit for positive results, send out a positive signal of confidence, solidarity and cooperation to the world, deepen practical cooperation, elevate cooperation levels, strengthen communication and coordination on major international issues and safeguard common interests. China is willing to work with India and other BRICS members to successfully host the ninth BRICS Summit next year.

Narendra Modi noted that frequent high-level exchanges and strategic communication between India and China are conducive to enhancing mutual understanding, beneficial to deepening bilateral cooperation and in line with the common interests of the two countries and regional development and prosperity. India and China have the responsibility to join hands and turn the 21st century into an Asian century. India is willing to strengthen cooperation with China within multilateral frameworks including the BRICS and the SCO, and supports China in hosting the ninth BRICS summit next year.
