Xi Jinping Meets with President Vladimir Putin of Russia

On October 15, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Goa of India with President Vladimir Putin of Russia.

Xi Jinping stressed that both as permanent members of the UN Security Council and major emerging market countries, China and Russia should strengthen coordination and cooperation within the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the BRICS and other multilateral frameworks, jointly promote a more just and reasonable international order and safeguard the interests of emerging market countries and developing countries. Last month, we held a fruitful meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Hangzhou Summit and reached important consensus on promoting a high-level development of China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination. Both sides should step up efforts to implement relevant outcomes.

Xi Jinping pointed out that leaders of BRICS countries held a successful informal meeting during the G20 Hangzhou Summit, in which they exchanged in-depth views on pushing forward BRICS cooperation and reached a host of important consensus. China hopes that the 8th BRICS Summit will yield positive results and inject new impetus into BRICS cooperation. As China will hold the rotating chairmanship of the BRICS next year, it stands ready to work with Russia and all other parties to make the 9th BRICS Summit a success.

Vladimir Putin said that he is delighted to see that Russia and China have maintained close communication at high levels and in various fields, which is very important to consolidating Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination. Committed to enhancing cooperation with China within multilateral frameworks, Russia supports China in successfully hosting the 9th BRICS Summit next year. China is an important economic partner of Russia, and Russia is willing to deepen cooperation with China in such areas as energy, transport infrastructure, aviation manufacturing and space. Russia supports the alignment and cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and the initiative of Silk Road Economic Belt.

Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin also had in-depth exchanges of views on the Korean Peninsula situation and other global and regional issues of common concern. Both sides agreed to maintain close communication and coordination to jointly safeguard peace and stability in Northeast Asia and the common interests of the two countries.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi, Zhou Xiaochuan and others were present at the meeting.
