On the afternoon of March 23, 2016, Premier Li Keqiang met in Sanya with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha of Thailand, who was in China for attendance of the 1st Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Leaders' Meeting and the 2016 annual conference of Boao Forum for Asia.

Li Keqiang said that China and Thailand, as close as a family, have witnessed close exchanges between the leaders of the two countries as well as constant and healthy practical cooperation in all sectors. China appreciates efforts made by Thailand, as the co-chairmanship of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, in collaborating with China to lead the construction process of this new mechanism. China is ready to, together with all other parties, build the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation into a model of sub-regional cooperation.

Li Keqiang pointed out that after one year's efforts, cooperation in the railway linking China and Thailand has scored important progress. It is hoped that both sides will continuously well implement the project under the principle of reciprocity, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, promote the economic and people-to-people exchanges among countries along the railway, and advance the regional connectivity, so as to achieve mutual benefit and multi-win results.

Prayut Chan-o-cha noted that it is of great significance to successfully host the 1st Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Leaders' Meeting. It is believed that the Lancang-Mekong cooperation will surely benefit all the member states. Thailand and China enjoy close relations and frequent high-level exchanges. China is also one of the best cooperative partners of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Thailand is willing to further boost bilateral cooperation in economy, trade, investment, tourism and other fields, actively promote Thailand-China cooperation in railway and push forward common development.
