Li Keqiang Meets with Vice President Sai Mauk Kham of Myanmar

On the afternoon of March 23, 2016, Premier Li Keqiang met in Sanya with Vice President Sai Mauk Kham of Myanmar, who was in China to attend the 1st Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Leaders' Meeting and the 2016 annual conference of Boao Forum for Asia on behalf of President U Thein Sein of Myanmar.

Li Keqiang noted that China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors. China respects the development path independently chosen by the Myanmar people in accordance with its own national conditions. China will as always conduct mutually beneficial cooperation with Myanmar and jointly promote a sustained and healthy development of the bilateral relations whatever changes happened in Myanmar's domestic situation. It is hoped that both sides could join efforts to promote bilateral cooperation in infrastructure construction, connectivity, industrial parks and other sectors, intensify exchanges in all fields including people-to-people and cultural engagement, and maintain the peace and tranquility in the bordering areas of both nations.

Sai Mauk Kham conveyed greetings from U Thein Sein to Chinese leaders, expressing that Myanmar attaches great importance to its relations with China, and is grateful to China for its long-term assistance to Myanmar. Myanmar will continue to beef up friendly cooperation with China though it is facing transfer of government. Myanmar hopes to work with China to push forward bilateral cooperation on big projects in such areas as cross-border industrial parks, road construction and water conservancy.
