Li Keqiang Holds Talks with Prime Minister Sooronbai Zheenbekov of Kyrgyzstan

On the afternoon of June 27, 2016, Premier Li Keqiang held talks in Tianjin with Prime Minister Sooronbai Zheenbekov of Kyrgyzstan, who was in China to attend the 2016 Summer Davos Forum.

Li Keqiang firstly extended condolences over the recent earthquake in Kyrgyzstan. He expressed that China and Kyrgyzstan are friendly neighbouring countries and strategic partners, and bilateral relations enjoy a sound momentum of development. Both heads of state successfully met in Tashkent not long ago. China firmly supports Kyrgyzstan in choosing its own development path, and is willing to work with Kyrgyzstan to advance China-Kyrgyzstan friendship and cooperation to continuously achieve new development and jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China and Kyrgyzstan have highly complementary economies with great potential and broad cooperation prospects. Both sides should further expand cooperation channels, lift cooperation level and optimize trade structure. China is willing to, together with Kyrgyzstan, enhance cooperation in production capacity, investment and other areas, jointly push forward the construction of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, well implement large projects such as restoration of urban road networks in Bishkek and the D-line of China-Central Asia natural gas pipeline, and expand high-tech agricultural cooperation and personnel exchanges. The two countries should also enhance law-enforcement and security cooperation and deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges cooperation in such fields as tourism, education, Chinese language teaching, joint archaeology research and youth exchanges, so as to further enhance mutual understanding and cement traditional friendship.

Li Keqiang stressed that Kyrgyzstan will host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) prime ministers' meeting this year. China is willing to continuously conduct close cooperation with Kyrgyzstan within the SCO framework and push forward the docking of the "Belt and Road" initiative with the development strategies of SCO members, so as to push for new results from the SCO construction and practical cooperation among member states.

Sooronbai Zheenbekov expressed appreciation for China's condolences over the earthquake in Kyrgyzstan and extended condolences over the tornado in Jiangsu, China not long ago. He said that this year's Summer Davos Forum is a complete success, showing China's leading role in world economic recovery and development. China is a strategic partner of Kyrgyzstan and a priority direction of its diplomacy. Both sides share mutual political support and practical cooperation enjoys smooth progress. Kyrgyzstan is ready to enhance production capacity cooperation and well implement the construction of large projects with China, so as to lift bilateral good-neighborly and friendly cooperative relations to a new height. He looks forward to Premier Li Keqiang's attendance at the SCO prime ministers' meeting and official visit to Kyrgyzstan within the year to jointly discuss on advancing Kyrgyzstan-China and Central Asia-China cooperation.
