On the morning of July 16, 2016 local time, Premier Li Keqiang met with Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany in Ulaanbaatar. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on China-Germany relations, China-EU relations and other topics.

Li Keqiang stated that the Chinese side is willing to work together with the German side to advance the active implementation of results from the 4th round of China-Germany inter-governmental consultation that was held not long ago and intensify communication and coordination in international and regional affairs so as to jointly push forward the development of relationship and cooperation between China and Germany.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the recent severe terrorist attack in Nice, France has shocked the world and the UK's referendum on EU membership also affected the international finance market. All these indicate that Asian and European countries are still facing many problems and challenges at present. China opposes all forms of terrorism. We firmly support the European integration process and believe a prosperous and stable Europe conforms to the interest of all sides. We hope that the relationship between the EU and the UK can realize a smooth transition and believe the EU will continue to move forward. China stands ready to, together with all EU countries, including Germany, strengthen cooperation, jointly cope with challenges and safeguard peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and the world.

Li Keqiang also expounded China's position on the EU's fulfillment of its obligation in Article 15 of Protocol on the Accession of China to the World Trade Organization and expressed that China and the EU are important trade partners of each other. This matters the confidence of enterprises and markets in the rule of law, international regulations and China-EU economic and trade relations. It is hoped that the EU can treat it with seriousness and perform its duties in due courses. China also expects Germany to actively promote the proper settlement of this issue.

Angela Merkel expressed that constant dialogues between Premier Li Keqiang and her reflect the closeness of bilateral relations. The German side is willing to maintain communication with China on latest development in the European situation. The international society should properly deal with the effect of the UK's exit from the EU and cooperate to crack down on terrorism. China is a reliable and trustworthy partner of the EU and Germany is glad to see the EU launch cooperation with China in a more reasonable and practical attitude.
