Wang Yi Meets with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi of Pakistan

On March 31, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Washington D.C. with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi of Pakistan.

Wang Yi said a recent terrorist attack hitting Lahore of your country caused heavy causalities. President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang have sent messages of condolences to President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif respectively. China firmly supports Pakistan to combat terrorism and safeguard national peace and stability. At this moment, the Chinese people stand besides the Pakistani people.

Syed Tariq Fatemi asked Wang Yi to convey warm regards and sincere gratitude from Pakistani leaders to Chinese leaders, and said that the Pakistani side can deeply feel the friendship and support from the Chinese government and people. Pakistan stands ready to enhance cooperation with China and jointly fight against terrorism forces.

Wang Yi said that the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership has been constantly deepening. Both sides should push the bilateral friendly cooperation in various fields for new progress by taking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations this year as an opportunity and the implementation of outcomes yielded during President Xi Jinping's visit to Pakistan last year as the mainline. Both countries should continue to maintain close high-level exchanges, work together to build the "Belt and Road", and continuously enhance "1+4" cooperation that centers around the China-Pakistan economic corridor, and takes cooperation in ports, transportation infrastructure, energy and industry as priorities. The two countries need to deeply push forward cooperation in defense and security, strengthen coordination and cooperation in international affairs including promoting positive results from the ongoing Nuclear Security Summit held in Washington, D.C., and jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.

Syed Tariq Fatem said Pakistan and China are a community of common destiny. It is crucial for both countries to strengthen bilateral friendly cooperation so as to realize peace, stability and progress in Pakistan. The Pakistani side will work closely with China to maintain close high-level exchanges, focus on advancing the construction of the Pakistan-China economic corridor, and promote bilateral cooperation in areas such as ports, railways, highways and energy for constant progress, so as to benefit both peoples and promote regional development. The Pakistani side is willing to make concerted efforts with China to contribute to the success of this years' Nuclear Security Summit.
