Xi Jinping Meets with President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan

On June 23, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Tashkent with President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Tajikistan are close and friendly neighboring countries and strategic partners with high mutual trust. In recent years, the two countries have maintained close high-level exchanges, and the joint-construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative has achieved multiple early harvests. Attaching importance to developing bilateral relations, China is willing to promote the in-depth docking of development strategies between both countries, ensure a good top-level design, well select important projects, and steadily and orderly boost cooperation within the framework of the joint-construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative. The two countries should deepen cooperation in such areas as agriculture, infrastructure and emergency disaster relief, facilitate personnel exchanges, strengthen security cooperation in areas including anti-terrorism, drug control, cyber security and combating cross-border organized crime, so as to realize common development and prosperity and better benefit the two peoples.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an important and constructive force for promoting regional peace and stability, common development as well as prosperity. China is willing to make joint efforts with Tajikistan and other member states to adhere to carrying forward the "Shanghai Spirit", and make greater contributions to the lasting political stability and security, development as well as revitalization of SCO member states.

Emomali Rahmon expressed that Tajikistan and China enjoy generations of friendship, and bilateral relations were established on the basis of equality, mutual trust and mutual benefit. In recent years, economic and trade cooperation between the two countries enjoys a sound momentum. Relevant major cooperation projects not only have become important pillars of the national development of Tajikistan, but also play an important propelling role in regional economic development. With active participation in the construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative, Tajikistan is willing to continuously strengthen cooperation with China in various fields such as infrastructure, electricity exploitation, agriculture, local affairs, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and security. Tajikistan supports China's great cause of peaceful reunification, fully understands and firmly supports China's principles and stance on the South China Sea issue. Tajikistan opposes the internationalization of the South China Sea issue.
