Li Keqiang Meets with Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam of Singapore

On the morning of June 27, 2017, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Dalian International Conference Center with Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam of Singapore, who was in China for the 2017 Summer Davos Forum.

On behalf of the Singaporean side, Tharman Shanmugaratnam first expressed condolences to the victims and the injured during the high-mountain collapse occurred in Sichuan. Li Keqiang expressed gratitude for the condolences from the Singaporean side and said that the Chinese side is making its best efforts to carry out the relief work.

Li Keqiang said that China and Singapore maintain frequent high-level exchanges, with smooth development in practical cooperation. China and Singapore conduct cooperation in building Chongqing Logistics Center, which will strengthen regional connectivity. China is willing to make joint efforts with Singapore to actively promote negotiations on an upgraded version of the China-Singapore Free Trade Area and regional comprehensive economic partnership and send a strong signal to the world of protecting free trade and propelling regional development.

Li Keqiang pointed out that developing China-ASEAN relations is an important aspect of China's diplomacy with neighboring countries. The Chinese side consistently supports the ASEAN community construction and hopes that Singapore will continue to play a constructive role in promoting the development of China-ASEAN relations as the country coordinator of China-ASEAN relations and the rotating presidency of ASEAN next year.

Tharman Shanmugaratnam noted that the Singaporean side treats the Singapore-China relations and ASEAN-China relations from a long-term perspective and stands ready to work jointly with China to expand cooperation in key areas, fasten the process of negotiations on an upgraded version of the Singapore-China Free Trade Area and regional comprehensive economic partnership and make unremitting efforts to promote the development of ASEAN-China strategic partnership.
