On the evening of July 4, 2017, President Xi Jinping, who just arrived in Berlin, met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the Max Liebermann House.

When Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan arrived at the Max Liebermann House nearby Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, they were warmly greeted by Angela Merkel and her husband Joachim Sauer. Accompanied by Angela Merkel and her husband, Xi Jinping and Mme. Peng Liyuan visited the Max Liebermann House briefly.

The leaders of both countries and their spouses stepped into the Library Hall. Xi Jinping and Angela Merkel had in-depth exchanges of views on issues of common concerns amid a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Xi Jinping pointed that since we met in Hangzhou Summit last year, China-Germany relations have scored much delightful and positive progress. I expected to continue to push forward the China-Germany all-round strategic partnership through this visit. The Chinese side welcomes German enterprises to actively participate in the "Belt and Road" construction. The "Belt and Road" initiative takes win-win results as goals and wide consultation, joint construction and shared benefits as its core concepts. The China-proposed initiative belongs to and will benefit countries along the route and the world at large.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Europe are two important world powers and enjoy a comprehensive strategic partnership. The more complicated the international situation is, the more significant the stable development of China-EU relations becomes. The Chinese side supports a united, stable, prosperous and open Europe, and China and Europe should actively build the four major partnerships of peace, growth, reform and civilization. It is hoped that Germany could play both leading and stabilizing roles in China-Germany relations and in China-Europe relations, so as to maintain the high-level development of China-EU relations.

Xi Jinping pointed out that at present, the economic globalization is at a historic crossroad. China and Germany, both as major trading countries, are also beneficiaries, supporters and maintainers of economic globalization. Both countries should push for a more vigorous, inclusive and sustainable economic globalization, in a bid to better benefit every country.

Angela Merkel warmly welcomed Xi Jinping's state visit to Germany. She expressed that her meeting with President Xi Jinping in Hangzhou last year remained fresh in her memory. They had talks amid a sound atmosphere, reaching a series of consensus. China has scored huge progress in economic development. At present, Germany-China relations are maintaining good development momentum, with bilateral practical cooperation in various fields yielding fruitful outcomes. The German side is willing to promote the development of Europe-China relations with China. Attaching importance to China's decisive role in international affairs, Germany appreciates China's support in multilateralism, and expresses gratitude to China for its support to Germany in well hosting the G20 Hamburg summit.

The leaders of both countries also briefed each other on their respective domestic development, and exchanged views on issues of common concerns.
