Xi Jinping Meets with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany

On July 5, 2017, local time, President Xi Jinping met with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany in Berlin. The two heads of state conducted in-depth exchanges, reaching extensive consensus on the development of China-Germany relations in the next phase.

Xi Jinping pointed out that this year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Germany. Over the past 45 years, adhering to the spirit of mutual respect and seeking common ground while reserving differences, both sides have constantly expanded cooperation in various fields, and enlarged consensus as well as common interests. Since the establishment of the China-Germany all-round strategic partnership in 2014, bilateral relations have been maintained at a high level. The two sides enjoy frequent and close high-level interaction, in-depth practical cooperation, and broad fields of exchanges. China-Germany relations have always walked in the forefront of China-Europe relations, entering into a new period of high-level and all-round strategic cooperation. China is willing to make joint efforts with Germany to inject more vitality into bilateral all-round cooperation, so as to better benefit the two peoples and jointly promote world peace, stability and prosperity.

Xi Jinping stressed that at present, the world is undergoing profound and complex changes. China and Germany are major economies and big trading nations in the world as well as two countries with important influence in respective regions. The strategic significance of strengthening bilateral cooperation becomes more prominent. Both sides should elevate strategic mutual trust, integrate development strategies in an all-round manner, enrich people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and extensively enhance international cooperation, in a bid to push forward China-Germany cooperation at higher levels.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier sincerely welcomed President Xi Jinping's visit to Germany. Frank-Walter Steinmeier expressed that he has good sentiment towards China, and has all along been committed to the development of Germany-China relations. Over the past decades, bilateral relations have made substantial progress with friendly cooperation in various fields yielding fruitful outcomes and with close coordination on international affairs. Germany stands ready to enhance cooperation with China under the G20 and other multilateral frameworks, so as to jointly safeguard international peace and promote world development.

Prior to the meeting, Frank-Walter Steinmeier held a grand welcoming ceremony for Xi Jinping in the garden of Bellevue Palace.

At around 9:30 a.m. local time, when Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan arrived at Bellevue Palace, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Mme. Elke Büdenbender greeted them at the parking lot. The two heads of state and their wives headed toward Bellevue Palace together. Frank-Walter Steinmeier introduced principal German officials to Xi Jinping, and Xi Jinping introduced members of the Chinese delegation to Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The two heads of state stepped on the reviewing stand. The military band played the national anthems of China and Germany. Xi Jinping, accompanied by Frank-Walter Steinmeier, reviewed the guard of honor. After that, Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan, accompanied by Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife, went to the welcoming team of Chinese and German children and kindly waved greetings to them.
