Xi Jinping Meets with President Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico

On September 4, 2017, President Xi Jinping met in Xiamen with President Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico, who was in China for the Dialogue between Emerging Market Economies and Developing Countries.

Xi Jinping stressed that in recent years, China-Mexico relations have displayed a new situation with all-round cooperation. The governments, legislative bodies, militaries and other departments of the two countries have maintained close exchanges and interactions. Several major projects have been formed in bilateral cooperation in such fields as oil and gas resources, telecom and finance, and cooperation in clean energy, processing and manufacturing, civil aviation, direct civil flights and other sectors has shown multiple highlights. On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of China-Mexico diplomatic relations, the promising bilateral relations have yielded significant achievements.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Mexico should keep pace with the times, deepen dialogues and improve the level of strategic cooperation. Both sides should reinforce strategy docking, comply with the new situation, integrate respective advantages and forge a supply chain that links China and Mexico and radiates to the surrounding region, so as to enhance the competitive of bilateral economic cooperation. China welcomes Mexico to further involve in cooperation within the framework of the "Belt and Road" construction and become an important pivot of the natural extension of the "Belt and Road" construction in Latin America. Both sides need to reinforce regional cooperation and actively advocate and press ahead the construction of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific. China expects the development of China-Mexico relations to play an exemplary and leading role in building a community of shared future for China and Latin America. China and Mexico should enhance international collaboration, staunchly promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, uphold multilateralism and safeguard authority and effectiveness of multilateral system. The two countries should intensify South-South cooperation. "BRICS Plus" cooperation pattern proposed by China this year aims at enhancing consolidation and cooperation between the BRICS countries and other emerging market economies and developing countries, establishing broader partnerships, safeguarding common interests and facilitating common development. China supports the Mexican side to play a more important role in the international arena.

Enrique Peña Nieto expressed that the Dialogue between Emerging Market Economies and Developing Countries held by China bears great significance. The establishment of Mexico-China comprehensive strategic partnership vigorously advances bilateral investment and trade as well as civil exchanges between the two peoples. Mexico stands ready to actively participate in the "Belt and Road" construction, reinforce cooperation with China in economy, trade, investment, energy resource, telecom, connectivity, tourism and other sectors and intensify communication and coordination in international affairs.
