Xi Jinping Holds Talks with President Tran Dại Quang of Vietnam

On November 13, 2017 local time, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and President Xi Jinping held talks with President Tran Dại Quang of Vietnam at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi.

Xi Jinping congratulated Vietnam on the full vigor demonstrated in its socialist renovation and opening-up cause and also on the successful conclusion of the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Da Nang. Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Vietnam are socialist neighbors and important cooperation partners with the same political system and common development goals, which closely link the destiny of the two parties, the two countries and the two peoples. The CPC and the Chinese government attach great importance to China-Vietnam relations, and will adhere to the basic principle of friendship toward Vietnam, and stay committed to strengthening bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperation, so as to effectively benefit the two peoples.

Xi Jinping stressed that the international and regional situations are undergoing profound and complicated changes and China and Vietnam are facing the arduous task of reform and development. Against this backdrop, the top leaders of both parties and countries need to step up strategic communication, and guide the direction of China-Vietnam relations, so as to promote bilateral relations to continue setting sail across the sea along the correct course. Both sides should consolidate the steady growth momentum of bilateral trade, speed up the docking of the "Belt and Road" with the construction of "Two Corridors and One Economic Circle", promote cooperation in key areas such as infrastructure construction, production capacity and cross-border economic cooperation zones and focus on major projects. Both sides should increase investment in the realm of people-to-people and cultural engagement, extensively carry out non-governmental exchanges, enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples, especially among the younger generations, and consolidate the public opinion foundation of China-Vietnam relations. We should properly control differences, maintain peace and stability on the sea, and promote common development. Both sides should well implement the outcomes of this visit in a comprehensive manner and promote a greater development of bilateral relations in the new era.

Tran Dại Quang expressed his congratulations on the establishment of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as a guiding principle at the 19th CPC National Congress and on Comrade Xi Jinping's re-election as General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee. Vietnam highly values the great achievements China has made in its economic and social development and the important contributions made by China to international and regional peace and prosperity. To consolidate and strengthen Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership is in line with the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples and also conducive to international and regional peace and stability. Vietnam is willing to work jointly with China to well carry forward the traditional friendship between Vietnam and China fostered by the leaders of the older generations of the two countries, well implement the important outcomes reached during President Xi Jinping's visit this time, maintain high-level exchanges between the two parties and two countries and promote practical exchanges and cooperation in all fields so as to advance the in-depth development of Vietnam-China relations.
