On November 13, 2017 local time, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and President Xi Jinping met in Vientiane with the former General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and President Choummaly Sayasone.

Xi Jinping pointed out that during Comrade Choummaly Sayasone's 10-year term of office as the top leader of the party and the country, he always attached great importance to developing China-Laos friendly relations, cared for and promoted bilateral exchanges and cooperation in person as well as made important contributions to realizing leap-frog development for China-Laos relations and deepening the traditional friendship between China and Laos.

Xi Jinping stressed that the important outcomes of the 19th CPC National Congress are conducive to constructing a new type of international relations and creating China-Laos community of shared future with strategic significance. My visit to Laos this time is to lift bilateral relations to another new level. I just had fruitful talks with General Secretary of the LPRP Central Committee and President Bounnhang Vorachith, reaching broad consensus and drawing a grand blueprint for the future development of bilateral relations. It is hoped that Comrade Choummaly Sayasone will continue to care for and support the development of China-Laos relations and play a part in continuously promoting the development of China-Laos relations towards the right direction.

Choummaly Sayasone extended his sincere congratulations on the historic achievements of the 19th CPC National Congress in diverse fields, especially the enshrinement of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era into the CPC Constitution. Comrade Xi Jinping is an old friend of the Lao people, and his visit this time will carry historical significance in the history of Laos-China relations. China is a friendly neighbor of Laos and an important force in international affairs. Laos is committed to promoting exchanges and cooperation between the two parties and the two countries and deepening Laos-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
