On November 14, 2017 local time, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and President Xi Jinping met with President of the National Assembly Pany Yathotu of Laos at the National Convention Center in Vientiane.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Laos have the same political system, similar ideal and faith, and enjoy interconnected future and destiny, sharing extensive common interests and huge potential for cooperation. China attaches high importance to developing its relations with Laos, and is willing to, together with Laos, continuously adhere to 16-word guideline of long-term stability, future orientation, good-neighborly friendship and comprehensive cooperation and the spirit of good neighbors, good friends, good comrades and good partners, and well implement the consensus reached by leaders of both parties and countries during this visit on boosting bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperation in the new era, in a bid to jointly build a community of shared future with strategic significance between both countries.

Xi Jinping spoke positively of the contributions made by the Lao National Assembly to the development of bilateral relations. Xi Jinping pointed out that the exchanges and cooperation between China's National People's Congress and the Lao National Assembly constitute an important component in the comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries. It is hoped that the legislative bodies of the two sides can maintain the tradition of high-level exchanges, enhance communication between counterpart institutions and local councils, deepen mutual learning of experience on state governance and administration, development planning, and legislation works, and intensify coordination and cooperation in multilateral occasions, thus making new contributions to the building of a country of socialist rule of law and to adding new impetus into the deepening of good neighbourly and friendly relations and comprehensive cooperation between both sides.

Xi Jinping briefed Pany Yathotu on China's relevant experience on advancing the rule of law in a comprehensive manner.

Pany Yathotu warmly welcomed General Secretary and President Xi Jinping's first visit to Laos after the conclusion of the 19th CPC National Congress. The Laos-China cooperation has made important contributions to the national development of Laos. The Lao National Assembly will strive to promote the implementation of the important consensus and results reached by the party and state leaders of the two countries during the visit, and deepen Laos-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with long-term stability. The Lao National Assembly is committed to strengthening the exchanges and cooperation with China's National People's Congress.

Ding Xuexiang, Liu He, Yang Jiechi and other Chinese delegation members as well as Vice President of the National Assembly and President of Lao-Chinese Friendship Committee at the National Assembly Sisay Leudetmounsone and others attended the meeting.
