2019-03-26 09:56

On March 26, 2019 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Edouard Philippe of France at the Prime Minister's Office in Pairs.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and France enjoy profound friendship and bilateral relations are progressing every day. During the visit, President Emmanuel Macron and I agreed to forge a more ambitious and vigorous China-France comprehensive strategic partnership. The Chinese side is willing to, together with the French side, take the 55th anniversary of the establishment of China-France diplomatic relations as a new opportunity to translate the consensus reached between the two countries into tangible outcomes to better respond to the expectations of the two peoples.

Xi Jinping underlined that China and France should place great emphasis on work in the following three aspects in the near future. First, move forward in the right direction. China and France should make more efforts to steer bilateral relations in the right direction, adhere to mutual respect, stick to the ideals of win-win cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, and gradually eliminate differences by making the pie of cooperation bigger and bigger. We welcome more French businesses to invest in China, and in the meantime, we hope the French side continues to offer fair, transparent and non-discriminative environment for Chinese businesses to invest in France. Second, consolidate the foundation of cooperation. The two sides should quicken the pace of upgrading the cooperation on the basis of steadily advancing their existing cooperation in nuclear energy, aviation, aerospace and other sectors. The two countries should well organize the commemorative activities on the 55th anniversary of the establishment of China-France diplomatic relations, deepen cooperation in such aspects as culture, education and sports, and host a culture and tourism year in each other's country in 2021. Third, focus on the future. The two countries should foster new drivers of bilateral cooperation and nurture future envoys of China-France friendship. The two sides should tap into the potential of cooperation in scientific and technological innovation, digital economy, artificial intelligence, and high-end manufacturing, and expand cooperation to new key areas such as agriculture. The Chinese side welcomes the French side to actively participate in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and stands ready to expand third-market cooperation with the French side. The two countries should encourage the exchanges between young politicians, entrepreneurs, researchers, journalists and people from all walks of life to lay a solid foundation for the enduring development of China-France relations.

Edouard Philippe noted that my visit to China last year was a complete success, and France and China have enjoyed close and fruitful exchanges and cooperation, and maintained a high level of mutual trust. President Xi Jinping's visit this time produced important outcomes, which again demonstrated the positive willingness of the two countries to jointly push forward the strategic cooperation. I agree with President Xi Jinping's significant propositions on and plans for developing France-China relations. All departments of the French government will earnestly implement the important consensus reached between the two sides during President Xi Jinping's visit this time, deepen bilateral practical cooperation in nuclear energy, environmental protection and green economy, and intensify communication and coordination on international affairs. The French side supports stronger relations between the European Union and China.

When Xi Jinping arrived at the Prime Minister's Office, Edouard Philippe welcomed Xi Jinping at the parking site. The guard of honor and cavalrymen lined up along the way to welcome and the military band played tune of welcome.

Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi, He Lifeng and others attended the meeting.
