China Saw First Day of No New Locally Transmitted Confirmed Cases Outside Hubei Yesterday

2020/03/08

At a press conference of the State Council inter-agency task force this afternoon, Mi Feng, NHC spokesperson and Deputy Director-General for Communications, said that on 7 March, no new confirmed cases were reported outside Hubei except three imported cases. This is the first time that no new locally transmitted confirmed cases were reported outside Hubei. Apart from that, 42 new suspected cases, no new fatal cases, and six fewer severe cases were reported by non-Hubei regions.

Outside Wuhan, no new confirmed cases were added in Hubei in the last three days. The number of new confirmed cases in Wuhan dropped below 50 yesterday.

Mi noted that as these figures indicate, China's approach has been effective and science-based. The situation continues to move in a positive direction. That said, considerable risks and pressure remain as more imported cases are expected with the spread of the virus abroad.
