MFA: China Working to Facilitate Foreign Purchase of Its Medical Supplies

2020/03/26

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang said on 25 March that China is working to facilitate other countries' commercial procurement of its medical supplies while meeting its domestic demand. Instead of imposing any trade restrictions, China has supported and encouraged orderly expansion of exports by its enterprises.

Geng noted that since the outbreak of COVID-19, China has been calling for joint efforts to keep the world economy open and the global supply chain and industrial chain stable. To date, buyers from Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei, the Czech Republic, Djibouti, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Qatar, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Turkey and the UK have signed purchase contracts with Chinese companies for such supplies as testing kits, masks, protective suits and goggles.

Geng stressed that, in addition to facilitating foreign commercial procurement of medical supplies, China has also provided supplies to WHO to support the epidemic response of other countries. Immediately after WHO expressed its desire to purchase medical supplies from China in order to support the global response, Chinese companies signed with WHO contracts for the first batch of supplies.
