MFA: Foreigners Defying Control Measures and Disrupting Order During the Outbreak Will Be Held Legally Accountable

2020/04/03

At a press conference on 2 April, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said that foreigners who defy control measures and disrupt order during the outbreak, and as a result bring danger to public health and security will be held legally accountable by the competent Chinese authorities.

She said that China always attaches great importance to the life and health of foreign nationals in the country. Since COVID-19 broke out, the Chinese side has been working to help foreigners in terms of outbreak control and their access to daily necessities, and those infected have been treated and taken care of like Chinese nationals. But at the same time, all foreigners in China are obliged to strictly abide by China’s laws and regulations, including the Law on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases, and other local regulations on outbreak control, as these rules are made to protect the life and health of everyone, Chinese and foreigners alike.
