NHC Update on Cases in China

1. Between 00:00 and 24:00, 18 May, the following were newly reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 6 confirmed cases (including 3 imported cases, all in Inner Mongolia;

3 local cases, 2 in Jilin and 1 in Hubei);

b) no fatal case;

c) 1 suspected case (imported, in Shanghai);

d) 3 cured and discharged cases;

e) 292 close contacts released from medical observation; and

f) 2 more severe cases.

2. As of 24:00, 18 May, among all the imported cases, 46 confirmed cases (including 3 severe cases) were still under treatment and 3 suspected cases awaiting test results. In total, 1,707 imported cases had been confirmed, 1,661 cases cured and discharged, and no fatal case reported.

3. As of 24:00, 18 May, the following had been reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 85 confirmed cases (including 10 severe cases) still under treatment;

b) 78,241 cured and discharged cases;

c) 4,634 fatal cases;

d) 82,960 confirmed cases;

e) 3 suspected cases pending test results; and

f) 740,428 close contacts traced (including 5,054 still under medical observation).

4. Between 00:00 and 24:00, 18 May, the following asymptomatic cases were reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 17 new cases (no imported case);

b) one turned into a confirmed case (not imported);

c) 75 cases released from medical observation (2 imported); and

d) 389 cases still under medical observation (29 imported).

5. As of 24:00, 18 May, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan had altogether reported 1,540 confirmed cases:

a) 1,055 in the Hong Kong SAR (including 1,025 discharged cases and 4 fatal cases);

b) 45 in the Macao SAR (including 44 discharged cases); and

c) 440 in the Taiwan region (including 398 discharged cases and 7 fatal cases).
