Vice Premier Sun Chunlan Inspects COVID-19 Response in Xinjiang

2020/07/25

To follow through on General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions, Sun Chunlan, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, inspected COVID-19 response in Xinjiang from 23 to 25 July, and extended care and support to local officials and people of all ethnicities on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council.

Right after cluster cases broke out in Xinjiang, the Party Committee and Government of the Autonomous Region responded with robust containment measures, including sweeping nucleic acid tests in the capital city of Urumqi. By far over two million people have been tested and all new cases are under control.

Sun gave full recognition to the Autonomous Region's response measures. She noted that the recent flare-up of infections involves people of different ethnicities, the median age of the patients is relatively young and the percentage of asymptomatic cases is relatively high.

Sun underlined the importance of following the seventh national edition of diagnostic and therapeutic protocols to provide harmonized and standardized treatment. She urged proactive efforts to explore treatment solutions for asymptomatic cases, prevent them from developing into severe or even critical cases, and care for patients of all ethnicities for an early recovery. The National Health Commission has mobilized experts on severe case treatment, nursing and Traditional Chinese Medicine and medical equipment and first-aid medicine to Xinjiang. On top of that, the Commission should further scale up support to Xinjiang, including helping it with training on epidemiological investigation and nosocomial infection prevention, and improving treatment capacity to provide high-quality treatment for infected persons of all ethnicities, said Sun.
