China and Nepal Hold the 13th Round of Diplomatic Consultation

On August 12, 2020, Vice Foreign Minister Luo Zhaohui held the 13th round of China-Nepal diplomatic consultation with Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi of Nepal via videolink, exchanging views on China-Nepal relations and international and regional issues of common concern.

Luo Zhaohui said, last year President Xi Jinping paid a historic state visit to Nepal, during which leaders of both countries reached important consensuses on bilateral relations. This year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of China-Nepal diplomatic relations. The Chinese and the Nepali sides have supported and helped each other in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, further elevating our mutual trust and friendship.

Luo Zhaohui noted, implementing the results of President Xi Jinping's visit to Nepal should be the main task for both sides. Both sides should also strengthen cooperation in anti-epidemic, build the Belt and Road Initiative with high quality, and deepen cooperation in areas including economy, trade, investment, interconnectivity, development assistance, defense, law-enforcement and security, and people-to-people and cultural engagement. Moreover, he also called on both sides to firmly support each other on issues concerning core interests and major concerns, and strengthen coordination in international and regional affairs, so as to push bilateral relations for greater development.

Shanker Das Bairagi said, the two heads of state exchanged visit last year, elevating bilateral relations to a new height. Leaders of both countries have recently exchanged congratulatory messages on the 65th anniversary of the establishment of China-Nepal diplomatic relations. The Nepali side will continue to stay committed to the One China policy, and support the Chinese side's stances in the Taiwan question, and the issues related to Xizang and Hong Kong. The Nepali side thanks the Chinese side for the precious help in fighting the COVID-19 epidemic, and is willing to, together with the Chinese side, strengthen anti-epidemic cooperation, implement the important consensuses of the leaders of both countries, and push bilateral cooperation in various areas for constant and new achievements.
