NHC Update on COVID-19 Cases in China

1. Between 00:00 and 24:00, 31 August, the following were reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 10 confirmed cases (all imported, including 3 in Tianjin, 3 in Hebei, 1 in Inner Mongolia, 1 in Shanghai, 1 in Fujian, and 1 in Guangdong);

b) no fatal cases;

c) no suspected cases;

d) 31 cured and discharged cases;

e) 532 close contacts released from medical observation; and

f) 1 fewer severe case than the previous day.

2. As of 24:00, 31 August, among all the imported cases, 182 confirmed cases (3 severe cases) were still under treatment and no suspected cases awaiting test results. In total, 2,509 imported cases had been confirmed, 2,327 cases cured and discharged, and no fatal cases reported.

3. As of 24:00, 31 August, the following had been reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 216 confirmed cases (including 3 severe cases) still under treatment;

b) 80,208 cured and discharged cases;

c) 4,634 fatal cases;

d) 85,058 confirmed cases;

e) no suspected cases pending test results; and

f) 815,740 close contacts traced (including 7,546 still under medical observation).

4. Between 00:00 and 24:00, 31 August, the following asymptomatic cases were reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 34 new cases (all imported);

b) no cases developed into confirmed cases;

c) 18 cases released from medical observation (12 imported); and

d) 356 cases still under medical observation (334 imported).

5. As of 24:00, 31 August, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan had altogether reported 5,344 confirmed cases:

a) 4,810 in the Hong Kong SAR (including 4,342 discharged cases and 89 fatal cases);

b) 46 in the Macao SAR (all discharged from hospital); and

c) 488 in the Taiwan region (including 462 discharged cases and 7 fatal cases).
