Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Beijing Organising Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Invite Foreign Envoys and Senior Diplomats to Visit Competition Zones of Yanqing and Beijing

On March 16 and 17, 2021, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Beijing Organising Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (Beijing Organizing Committee) invited foreign envoys and senior diplomats of 31 competitive countries in winter sports to visit competition zones of Yanqing and Beijing after their visit to Zhangjiakou competition zone. Envoys investigated National Sliding Center, National Alpine Skiing Center, and Olympic Village in the competition zone of Yanqing, and visited "Ice Ribbon" National Speed Skating Oval, "Ice Cube" National Aquatics Center Curling Venue, Wukesong Sports Centre Ice Hockey Rink, National Indoor Stadium Ice Hockey Rink, Capital Indoor Stadium Figure Skating Center, and Big Air Shougang. Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun, Beijing Deputy Mayor and Executive Vice President of Winter Olympic Games Zhang Jiandong, and full-time Vice President and Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee Han Zirong were also present.

   

After the visit, envoys and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Beijing Organising Committee discussed and exchanged on relevant issues. Special Envoy Zhai Jun said, Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games is a major event for China and the Chinese people, and a solemn commitment of the Chinese government and the Chinese people for the international community. China will unite and cooperate closely with all other countries to handle well the pandemic prevention and control and the event organizing, and earnestly implement the guiding principle of "simplicity, safety and excellence" put forward by President Xi Jinping. We believe the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will serve as a bridge to enhance the friendship among peoples of the world, and make the international community a closer and united community with a shared future.

   

Vice President Han Zirong introduced the construction of venues for the 2022 Winter Olympics, and said 12 competition venues have been completed and passed the examination and certification of the corresponding international sports organizations. China will continue to advance all preparation work as scheduled with high standards and high quality, and host international events, international training weeks, and the ice test matches in April.

   

Envoys thanked for Chinese meticulous preparations for organizing the activities, spoke highly of the efficiency and quality of the construction of the venues of Beijing Winter Olympic Games, and recognized environment-friendly philosophy, efforts in protecting biodiversity, and advanced technology in carbon dioxide ice-making, post-event sustainable use plan, and Chinese cultural elements containing in the details of the venues, and the achievements in poverty alleviation. Envoys also said they would actively communicate and cooperate with China, and create favorable conditions for athletes of their own countries to take part in the Olympics and achieve good results.
