On May 29, 2021, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu attended upon invitation the celebration marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Austria held by the Austrian Embassy in China.

In his speech, Ma Zhaoxu extended warm congratulations on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Austria, saying that President Xi Jinping and President Alexander Van der Bellen confirmed the establishment of a friendly strategic partnership between China and Austria in 2018 and wrote a new chapter in China-Austria relations. Over the past 50 years, China and Austria have witnessed the in-depth development of bilateral relations and constantly explored practical cooperation. China has been one of Austria's top 10 trading partners for five consecutive years. Our cooperation has yielded fruitful results in such fields as the implementation of Belt and Road Initiative, high-end manufacturing, digital economy, energy conservation, environmental protection and people-to-people exchanges. China and Austria have worked together to help each other in the fight against the COVID-19 and cooperated with each other on resuming work and production on the basis of strengthening joint prevention and control.

Ma Zhaoxu said, the leaders of the two countries exchanged congratulatory messages on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Austria and agreed to take it as an opportunity to push forward the continuous development of China-Austria friendly strategic partnership. In the face of increasing global challenges, China and Austria should respect each other's core interests, strengthen dialogue and cooperation, uphold multilateralism, the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order based on international law, and work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Austrian Ambassador to China Friedrich Stift said in his speech that since the establishment of the diplomatic ties 50 years ago, Austria and China have developed increasingly mature relations and achieved fruitful results in bilateral cooperation. Austria has always regarded China as an important partner and is willing to make joint efforts with China to continuously deepen bilateral friendly strategic partnership and cooperation.
