Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong Meets with Singaporean Ambassador to China Lui Tuck Yew

2021/07/23

On July 23, 2021, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with Singaporean Ambassador to China Lui Tuck Yew. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and the international and regional situation. Liu Jinsong said, China-Singapore relations set an example that big and small countries treat each other equally, learn from each other, and engage in win-win cooperation. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, China and ASEAN countries such as Singapore have looked out for and helped each other through the hard times, interpreting the Cantonese proverb "stir-frying bitter melon with sugar" (i.e. sharing weal and woe). China will be open and confident, humble and modest, build relations with neighboring countries based on friendship, good faith, mutually benefit and inclusiveness, and provide neighboring countries with new opportunities through its new development. China will deepen cooperation with Singapore in the pandemic response, economic recovery, sustainable development and the Belt and Road Initiative, contributing to the stability and prosperity of Asia.

Lui Tuck Yew extended again his congratulations on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, and hailed the development achievements of China and the progress in China-Singapore relations. He said that China and Singapore have been collaborating with and learning from each other, and that Singapore should follow China's example in many emerging fields. He hopes China-Singapore relations and China-ASEAN relations will continue to prosper and develop against the headwinds of COVID-19.
