Li Keqiang Meets with President Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico, Stressing to Create Favorable Conditions for Higher-level Cooperation Between the Two Countries

2014/11/11

In the afternoon of November 11, 2014, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Great Hall of the People with President Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico, who was in China for state visit and the 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Informal Leaders' Meeting.

Li Keqiang expressed that China and Mexico are both emerging economies and share broad common interest. President Xi Jinping met with you three times last year, promoting bilateral relations to a new development stage. At present, China-Mexico practical cooperation still enjoys huge potential waiting to be released. China is willing to, together with Mexico, take each other's development as an opportunity, enhance trade, expand mutual investment, and advance cooperation in energy, finance, high-tech and other fields, so as to achieve great success through small victories and drive forward bilateral all-round cooperation in an in-depth manner.

Li Keqiang pointed out that infrastructure construction is a key and priority field in China-Mexico cooperation. China boasts advanced, safe, reliable and cost-effective technology as well as rich operating experience in high-speed rail, therefore, the two countries carrying out cooperation in this field will yield mutually beneficial and win-win results. Not long ago, the Chinese-Mexican consortium, acting in accordance with Mexican bidding procedure and on the basis of its own competitiveness, successfully won the bidding of the high-speed rail project between Mexico City and Queretaro. This outcome is completely just and legitimate. We feel regret that the Mexican government annulled the biding outcome. In view of the positive remarks of the Mexican side, the Chinese government will continuously encourage Chinese enterprise to participate in infrastructure construction project including high-speed rail in Mexico, and hopes that the Mexican government will be impartial to Chinese enterprises, promote relevant bilateral cooperation for early and substantive results and also create favorable conditions for bilateral higher-level cooperation.

Enrique Peña Nieto expressed that Mexico and China enjoy time-honored traditional friendship, and witness rapid development in bilateral relations. Mexico attaches great importance to its relations with China, and stands ready to, together with China, further improve cooperation mechanism and carry out long-term and friendly cooperation on the basis of mutual trust. Mexico highly values Chinese enterprises taking part in high-speed rail construction in Mexico, and relevant cooperation is completely transparent. Mexico hopes Chinese enterprises expand investment in the country and welcomes Chinese enterprises to continue to participate in Mexico's high-speed rail projects. The Mexican side will make efforts to solve the current problems and guarantee the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises. Mexico will play a positive role in driving Latin America-China relations.
