Zha Liyou, Chinese Consul General in Kolkata, Attends Vriksharopana Utsav in Visva Bharati

On August 8, 2019, Consul General Zha Liyou visited Santiniketan to attend the Vriksharopana Utsav held by Visva Bharati. Mr Bibek Debroy, Chairman of Economic Advisory Council to the PM, Mr Goutam Deb, West Bengal Tourism Minister, and Prof. Bidyut Chakrabarty, Vice Chancellor of Visva Bharati, and more than 1,000 students and teachers of VB were present.

The Consul General and the guests participated in the ceremony and were invited to speak. He said that Rabindranath Tagore, founder of Visva Bharati, is a well-known name in China and made important contributions to cultural exchanges between China and India. This year the People's Republic of China is celebrating its 70th anniversary, and India its 72nd Independent Day. He encouraged friends from all walks of life in India to follow Tagore's footsteps and support China-India relations and the sub-national exchanges.

The Consul General also respectively met with Mr Bibek Debroy, Mr Goutam Deb, Prof. Bidyut Chakrabarty and Prof. Narottam Senapati (Principal of Bhasha Bhavana), to discuss on how to further cultural exchanges between the two countries.
