Ambassador He Meets with Minister for Education Joe McHugh TD

On September 18, Ambassador He Xiangdong met with Mr. Joe McHugh, Minister for Education and Skills.

Ambassador He said that education cooperation is an important part of people-to-people exchanges between China and Ireland. China is delighted to work together with the Irish side to push bilateral educational collaboration to a new high. Chinese language is going to be introduced to the Leaving Certificate curriculum from 2020 in Ireland. China is ready to provide assistance and support to the Irish side in related works.

Minister McHugh said that Ireland is committed to expanding education collaboration with China. China's support for the teaching of Chinese language in Ireland is greatly appreciated. Ireland would like to render assistance to Chinese universities in starting the Irish language course.

Also present at the meeting were Mr. Shen Mingchun, Chief of the Political and Press Section, Mr. Zheng Dawei, Education Attaché of the Embassy, and Mr. Vincent Landers, Principal Officer of the International Section of the Department of Education and Skills.
