2019/08/27

On August 27, 2019, the 4th China-Africa Youth Festival opened in Beijing. Chairman of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation Wang Jiarui attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong addressed the function. Over 300 people were present at the Festival, including representatives of Chinese and African youth, African diplomatic envoys to China and representatives of African students studying in China.

Chen Xiaodong said in his speech that President Xi Jinping has pointed out many times that China and Africa have always been a community with a shared future. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Over the past 70 years, China and Africa have, on the basis of similar sufferings and a common mission, embarked on a distinctive path of win-win cooperation. Together, we have forged a brotherly friendship sharing weal and woe. The Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) was held successfully in September, 2018, ushering in a new era for China-Africa relations and generating a new wave of international cooperation with Africa.

Chen Xiaodong pointed out, youth exchanges and cooperation play an important role in China-Africa relations. Many of the measures launched at the FOCAC Beijing Summit focus on young people and provide them with training and support. At present, China and Africa are fully promoting the implementation of the follow-up actions of the FOCAC Beijing Summit. The young people of China and Africa should enhance their sense of mission and responsibility, and actively devote themselves to China-Africa friendship and cooperation, in a bid to constantly inject new impetus into the people-to-people and cultural exchanges between both sides and enrich the China-Africa comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Chen Xiaodong emphasized, the world today is undergoing major changes unseen in a century. Deepening China-Africa friendly cooperation will help strengthen the overall strength of developing countries, help uphold multilateralism, fairness and justice, and help promote the democratization of international relations and multi-polarization of the world. It is hoped that the young people of China and Africa will jointly deliver a good performance in the relay of China-Africa solidarity and cooperation, contribute to building an even stronger community with a shared future between China and Africa, and unremittingly strive for world peace and development and the progress of human civilization.

The China-Africa Youth Festival is an important youth exchange activity under the FOCAC framework. Under the theme of connecting the dreams of youth and creating a new era for China-Africa relations, the Festival this time is hosted by the Foreign Ministry and organized by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, and will be held in Beijing and Guangdong.
