Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng: Pushing Forward China-Russia Relations with the Spirit of the Ox

On January 15, 2021, Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng met with Russian Ambassador to China Andrey Ivanovich Denisov. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral relations, cooperation in various fields and issues of common concern.

Le Yucheng said that remarkable achievements have been made in the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia in the new era, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin in the past year. The two countries helped each other in fighting against the pandemic and promoted practical cooperation in economy, trade, and scientific and technological innovation against the downward trend. The two sides firmly supported each other on issues involving their respective core interests, and jointly safeguarded international fairness and justice. After enduring the changes unseen in a hundred years and the once-in-a-century pandemic, China-Russia relations bore more value and grew stronger.

Le Yucheng pointed out that as the Year of the Ox is approaching, President Xi encouraged the Chinese people to carry forward the spirit of "the ox in serving the people, driving innovative development and working tirelessly" to forge ahead along the new journey of comprehensively building a modern socialist country. China is ready to carry forward the "spirit of the ox" with Russia to aggressively and relentlessly implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state despite of difficulties, focus on the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation Between the People's Republic of China and the Russia Federation, enhance mutual support, deepen all-round cooperation, and push ahead China-Russia relations.

Andrey Ivanovich Denisov said that thanks to the care and commitment of the two heads of state, Russia-China relations maintained a high-quality and high-level development by overcoming the changes of international situation and the COVID-19 challenges. The trade volume between the two countries stood above 100 billion dollars, with steady growth in cooperation in various fields. In addition, the anti-pandemic cooperation has brought new elements to bilateral relations. Russia is full of confidence in the development prospects of Russia-China relations and is willing to work with China in the Year of the Ox to bring new opportunities and new outcomes of cooperation.
