Liu Yandong Meets with Foreign Leaders Attending the Closing Ceremony of the 26th Summer Universiade

On August 23, 2011, Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and State Councilor, met respectively with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, Lao Deputy Prime Minister Asang Laoly and Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan attending the closing ceremony of the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, Guangdong.

Liu extended warm welcome to the foreign leaders attending the closing ceremony of Shenzhen Universiade and expressed sincere thanks to the foreign governments and people supporting China's hosting of the Universiade. She also congratulated the athletes on their good performance at the Universiade.

On August 23, Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and State Councilor, met with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov attending the closing ceremony of the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, Guangdong.

During the meeting with Shuvalov, Liu said currently China-Russia strategic cooperative partnership has maintained a sound momentum of comprehensive, rapid and in-depth development. Both sides have enjoyed close high-level exchanges, deepening political mutual trust, fruitful pragmatic cooperation, increasing highlights of humanities exchanges and effective strategic coordination. China is ready to work with Russia to be jointly committed to developing comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation with equality, trust, mutual support, common prosperity and friendship for generations and increase mutual support on issues concerning each other's sovereignty, security, development and other core interests. She also urged both sides to give full play to bilateral cooperation committees and push the ties for sustained, stable development.

On August 23, Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and State Councilor, met with Lao Deputy Prime Minister Asang Laoly attending the closing ceremony of the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, Guangdong.

While meeting with Asang Laoly, Liu said China makes positive comments on the importance the Lao party and government have attached to developing ties with China. In recent years, China-Laos comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation has been developing at a higher level, bringing tangible benefits to both peoples. As this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, both sides have held a range of celebrations and achieved good results. China is ready to work with Laos to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries on how to consolidate and develop China-Laos comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation in the new situation and advance pragmatic cooperation on education, culture, sport and other humanities areas to promote the friendship between both peoples.

On August 23, Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and State Councilor, met with Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan attending the closing ceremony of the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, Guangdong.

During the meeting with Gevorgyan, Liu said since the establishment of diplomatic ties 19 years ago, China-Armenia relations have been developing steadily and both sides have become good friends of mutual trust and good partners of sincere cooperation. China appreciates Armenia's firm support on Taiwan, Tibet, human rights and other issues of China's concern and will as always support the Armenian people's independent choice of development path. It is a set policy of the Chinese government to develop friendly cooperative relations of long-term stability with Armenia. Next year marks the 20th anniversary of China-Armenia diplomatic ties. Bilateral ties are at a new historical starting point and face good opportunities for comprehensive development. China is ready to work with Armenia to continue to build up political trust, deepen pragmatic cooperation and enhance humanities and regional exchanges so as to push forward China-Armenia friendly cooperative relations.

The three foreign leaders warmly congratulated China for the success of Shenzhen Universiade which is another important major sports event hosted by China following the Olympic Games in Beijing and the Asian Games in Guangzhou. They appreciated Shenzhen Universiade for making a difference and spoke highly of the contributions the Chinese government and people have made to developing youth sports and building mutual understanding and friendship among the people of all countries including young people. They also thanked for excellent arrangements the Chinese side had made for their attendance of Universiade. The three foreign leaders said they attach great importance to developing friendly cooperative relations with China and are satisfied with the development of bilateral ties in recent years. They pledged to start from a strategic height and further push bilateral ties to a new level.
