Hu Jintao Meets with Cambodian King

On the afternoon of October 17, 2004, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with new Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni at the Great Hall of the People.

Hu Jintao once again congratulated Sihamoni upon succeeding his predecessor as new Cambodian King and expressed his wishes for the continuous new achievements of Cambodia under the leadership of King Sihamoni.

Hu Jintao said that the friendship between the Cambodian and Chinese peoples goes back to ancient times and wins support among the people. China and Cambodia are good neighbors, good friends and good partners that rely on each other. The Chinese government and people very much cherish the profound traditional friendship with the Cambodian royal family and people, highly comment the outstanding contributions made by Prince Sihanouk for China-Cambodia friendship, attach importance to developing China-Cambodia good-neighborly friendly cooperation, will as always support the Cambodian government and people to make efforts for the state stability, national unity and economic development and would like to work along with Cambodia to upgrade bilateral good-neighborly friendly cooperation in the new century to a new level.

Sihamoni said that China is a great friend of Cambodia and has offered enormous support and help to it over the years. Cambodia will adhere to the friendly policy towards China and follow the one-China principle forever and Sihamoni himself will exhaust his ability to continue consolidating and developing Cambodia-China friendship so that bilateral ties can score more fruitful achievements.

Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo and some other officials attended the meeting.
