Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Xue Bing Attends High-Level African Counter-Terrorism Meeting

From April 22 to 23, 2024, Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Xue Bing, upon invitation, attended the High-Level African Counter-Terrorism Meeting held in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. President of Nigeria Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of Togo Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina J. Mohammed, Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat, and representatives from nearly 30 African countries, as well as from extra-regional countries such as China and France, and international and regional organizations attended the meeting.

Special Envoy Xue Bing delivered remarks at the meeting, introducing China's efforts in counter-terrorism in Africa under the guidance of the Global Development Initiative and Global Security Initiative put forth by President Xi Jinping. He stated that it is the common responsibility of the international community to help Africa address the threat of terrorism, and all parties should adhere to pooling strength through consensus and promoting peace through development to make new contributions to solving the plight of counter-terrorism in Africa.

The High-Level African Counter-Terrorism Meeting was co-hosted by the Nigerian government and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism. During the meeting, Special Envoy Xue Bing had extensive and friendly exchanges with representatives of the participating parties.
