Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng Holds a Video Meeting with Director of the African Department at the International Monetary Fund Abebe Aemro Selassie

On May 11, 2021, Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng held a video meeting with Director of the African Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Abebe Aemro Selassie. Wu Peng briefed on the results of the joint fight against COVID-19 and Belt and Road cooperation between China and Africa amid the pandemic and an envisaged new meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He said that the pragmatic and efficient cooperation on investment and financing between the two sides has always been based on Africa's development needs. China is ready to work with all sides including the IMF to enhance cooperation and jointly contribute to Africa's post-pandemic economic recovery and independent development.

Selassie spoke highly of the achievements of China-Africa cooperation, and said that the cooperation and China's development experience are of great significance to the development of Africa. The IMF shares the same goal of supporting Africa's development with China and is willing to maintain close communication with China, and jointly promote sustainable development of the continent. Selassie wishes the new meeting of the FOCAC a success.
