On June 14, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the Forum on Global Human Rights Governance in Beijing.

Ma Zhaoxu noted that President Xi Jinping elaborated profoundly in his congratulatory letter to the forum on the important proposition of promoting and protecting human rights, providing China’s solution for advancing global human rights governance and fundamental guidance for the success of this forum. The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has drawn a grand blueprint for building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects and advancing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization. In the process of achieving Chinese modernization, China’s human rights course will continue to develop, and China will surely make greater contributions to global human rights governance.

Ma Zhaoxu said that living a happy life is the biggest human right, and the rights to subsistence and development are the basic human rights of paramount importance. The Global Security Initiative, the Global Development Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping are of great significance for protecting and safeguarding human rights. There is no one-size-fits-all model of human rights in the world. The right of each country to independently choose its path of human rights development should be respected. Some Western countries’ practices of lecturing others about human rights and interfering in others’ internal affairs while ignoring their own serious human rights problems must be rejected.

Ma Zhaoxu noted that China has always actively participated in global human rights governance, and extensively expanded   exchanges and cooperation with all parties on human rights. China stands ready to work with all parties to promote the common values of  humanity, steer global human rights governance toward greater fairness, equity, justice and inclusiveness, and advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
