Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu Meets with Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammed

On June 29, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu held talks with visiting Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) Amina Mohammed. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on the current international situation, cooperation between China and the UN, sustainable development, and other issues. Under-Secretary-General of the UN Li Junhua, among others, was present.

Ma Zhaoxu said that China stays committed to upholding the UN-centered international system, the international order underpinned by international law, and basic norms governing international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. China stands ready to continuously deepen cooperation with the UN, actively implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, so as to provide more support for the cause of the UN, jointly act on and uphold multilateralism, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Amina Mohammed commended China's important role in safeguarding world peace and promoting global development, and its contributions to the cause of the UN, and emphasized that the UN is ready to continuously deepen coordination and cooperation with China in safeguarding international peace and security, and promoting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, global climate action, and reform of the international governance system, among others.
