Xi Jinping Meets with Acting President of the OCA Raja Randhir Singh

On the afternoon of September 22, 2023, President Xi Jinping met at the West Lake State Guesthouse in Hangzhou with Acting President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Raja Randhir Singh who is in China to attend the opening ceremony of the 19th Asian Games.

President Xi Jinping thanked Singh and the OCA for what they have done in promoting sports development in China over the years, especially their contributions to the preparation of the Hangzhou Asian Games. Xi Jinping noted that the OCA has long been committed to promoting the Olympic sports and advancing peace and development in Asia, yielding positive results. China stands ready to strengthen cooperation with the OCA to jointly develop the Olympic sports in Asia and enhance the unity of the Asian people.

Xi Jinping stressed that with the joint support of the OCA and the big Asian Olympic family, the Hangzhou Asian Games is ready to kick off. This is the third Asian Games hosted by China following the 1990 Beijing Asian Games and the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. It has hit a new high in terms of the number of athletes, the number of events, and overall scale. The Chinese government and people have the confidence and capability to host a great event that is distinctly Chinese, uniquely Asian and spectacular, and that will enhance the unity and friendship among the Asian people and leave the world with an indelible memory of Hangzhou.

On behalf of the OCA Singh expressed appreciation to the Chinese government for providing longstanding support for the development of the Olympic Movement in Asia and for hosting the Hangzhou Asian Games. He said that the sporting venues and facilities in Hangzhou are impressively beautiful and advanced, and satisfactory to the athletes, and the hospitality of the Chinese people has made both the athletes and guests feel at home. Singh noted that he is confidence that the Hangzhou Asian Games will be spectacular and successful, and looks forward to greater contributions of China to Asian sports development.

Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Wang Yi, and Shen Yiqin, among others, were present at the meeting.
