On December 5, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu attended and addressed the welcome reception of the International Symposium Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Ma Zhaoxu said, President Xi Jinping pointed out that ensuring a good life for people is the ultimate human right. China has taken a people-centered approach to human rights. Taking the people's aspirations for a better life as its goal, China has opened a new path for human rights development that adapts to the changing times and suits its national conditions, and scored historic achievements in its human rights cause. In the process of advancing Chinese modernization, the protection of human rights for the Chinese people will be further enhanced, and people's sense of fulfillment, happiness and security will be further strengthened. China is ready to work with all parties to take the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a new starting point, jointly advance the cause of human rights in the world through constructive dialogue and cooperation, and steer the global governance of human rights toward greater fairness, justice, equity and inclusiveness.

Participating representatives highly appreciated China's human rights concepts and achievements, saying that the current global governance of human rights is facing grave challenges, and requires the joint efforts of all parties. This symposium provides a rare opportunity for all parties, especially countries of the Global South, to strengthen exchanges and mutual learning.
