Li Qiang Meets with President of Chile Gabriel Boric

On the morning of October 17, 2023, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council met at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with President of Chile Gabriel Boric who is in China to attend the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and pay a state visit to China.

Li Qiang said that China and Chile always adhere to mutual respect, mutual benefit and win-win results, and the development of bilateral relations has been the forerunner of relations between Latin American and Caribbean countries and China for a long time. President Xi Jinping and President Gabriel Boric held productive talks, jointly drawing a blueprint for growing China-Chile relations in the new era. China is ready to work with Chile to follow through on the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, continue to carry forward the fine tradition of striving to be the first and forging ahead with entrepreneurship, carry forward friendship between the two countries, advance bilateral cooperation, and constantly elevate the China-Chile comprehensive strategic partnership to new levels and yield new outcomes.

Li Qiang pointed out that China is ready to work with Chile to firmly view each other's development as an opportunity, take high-quality Belt and Road cooperation as the mainstay, and push the continuous upgrading of bilateral practical cooperation. China is ready to strengthen the alignment of development strategies with Chile, give full play to the role of the inter-governmental permanent committee between the two countries and other mechanisms, and advance cooperation in priority and key fields in a coordinated manner. The two sides should expand and strengthen cooperation in such traditional fields as agriculture, energy and mining, and infrastructure, further elevate the size and level of trade, and jointly safeguard stable and unimpeded global industrial and supply chains. The two sides should carry out financial cooperation such as cooperation in investment and financing, to provide strong support for promoting two-way trade and investment. The two sides should actively explore cooperation in such emerging fields as clean energy, digital economy and scientific and technological innovation, and foster new sources of growth of China-Chile cooperation and jointly improve the quality of development.

Gabriel Boric said that the Chile-China friendship has a long history. Chile is committed to the one-China principle, supports the Belt and Road Initiative, and stands ready to strengthen exchanges of governance experience with China, consolidate cooperation in such traditional fields as agriculture and food, expand new sources of growth of cooperation in such fields as scientific and technological innovation, the Antarctic Pole and tourism, deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and promote the further development of Chile-China relations. Chile welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in Chile and stands ready to act as a gateway for Chinese enterprises to enter Latin America, so as to achieve common development.
