Xi Jinping Meets with President of Peru Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra

On the morning of November 16, 2023 local time, President Xi Jinping met with President of Peru Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra in San Francisco.

Xi Jinping pointed out that over the past more than half a century since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Peru have understood and supported each other on issues involving their respective core interests and major concerns, and bilateral cooperation, particularly the Belt and Road cooperation, has grown steadily and promoted the development and revitalization of the two countries to the benefit of the two peoples. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership. The two sides should deepen political mutual trust, strengthen strategic communication, firmly support each other in following a development path suited to its own national conditions, enhance synergy of development strategies, strengthen cooperation in traditional fields such as economy and trade, energy and minerals, foster new sources of growth in cooperation in digital economy and green development, and push for more outcomes in Belt and Road cooperation. China is ready to import more quality agricultural products with Peruvian characteristics, and encourages Chinese enterprises to participate in the construction of important projects in Peru in accordance with market principles. Both China and Peru have glorious civilizations and rich cultures, and the two sides should strengthen cooperation in education, culture, tourism, science and technology, and youth exchanges, among others, to set a fine example of inter-civilization exchanges and mutual learning.

Xi Jinping emphasized that under the new circumstances, a growing China-Peru relationship is not only aligned with the common interests of the two countries, but also of important significance for building an open world economy. China supports Peru in hosting the 2024 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, and stands ready to enhance communication and coordination with Peru, push for new outcomes of APEC cooperation, and make new contributions to the economic recovery and long-term development of the Asia-Pacific, and the building of an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future. China is ready to work with Peru to promote the continued development of relations between China and Latin American and Caribbean countries in the new era.

Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra said that Peru and China are both ancient civilizations, and the friendly exchanges between the two peoples are time-honored. Since the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries ten years ago, the two sides have steadfastly respected and supported each other. Peru is committed to deepening relations with China, and hopes to make better use of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, elevate the comprehensive strategic cooperation to higher levels, and deepen practical cooperation in green economy and other fields. Peru adheres to the one-China principle, and actively participates in the Belt and Road cooperation. In 2024, Peru will assume the rotating presidency of APEC, and looks forward to working with China to push for inclusive and sustainable growth in the Asia-Pacific region, and promote the development of relations between Latin American and Caribbean countries and China. Peru is also ready to strengthen multilateral cooperation with China.
