On January 19, 2024 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira jointly met the press, stressing that China and Brazil will take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to jointly forge the next golden 50 years in China-Brazil relations.

Wang Yi said, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil. It is an important time juncture to build on past achievements and open up a new future. Going through half a century, with all its ups and downs, China-Brazil relations have become more fully-fledged and resilient, and continued to show vitality. Abundant sources ensure a long flow, and deep roots lead to lush foliage. The China-Brazil relationship has great potential for significant achievements. Both sides should overcome the vast distance of mountains and oceans and lose no time to jointly take the China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level, show new vitality and open up new horizons, so that China-Brazil relations will continue to be at the forefront of the times and become a model of solidarity, cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win results among major developing countries.

Wang Yi introduced the main consensus reached between the two sides.

First, jointly implement the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state and further consolidate strategic mutual trust. Under the guidance of the strategic planning of the two heads of state, the two sides will continue to maintain mutual understanding and mutual support on issues involving each other's core interests and major concerns. China appreciates Brazil's reaffirmation of its adherence to the one-China principle. China will make good preparations for high-level exchanges in the next stage, make a success of the seventh meeting of the China-Brazil High-level Coordination and Cooperation Committee, and promote exchanges and cooperation between governments, legislative bodies, political parties, and at subnational levels.

Second, jointly deepen mutually beneficial cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples. China-Brazil cooperation ranges "from space to soybeans". China has been Brazil's largest trading partner, export market and source of trade surplus for 15 consecutive years. Brazil is also China's largest trading partner in Latin America. Both sides will uphold the principles of openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation, strengthen the alignment of development strategies, and promote cooperation in various fields to new heights. Both sides will facilitate and support their enterprises to invest and do business in the other country.

Third, jointly enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges and consolidate the public support for China-Brazil friendship. The two sides will push for more active exchanges in culture, education, tourism, sports and other fields at a faster pace to enhance the traditional friendship between the peoples and deepen mutual understanding among the younger generations. The two sides will provide visa facilitation to each other, expand two-way personnel exchanges, and accelerate the opening of the Brazilian Consulate-General in Chengdu.

Fourth, jointly demonstrate the responsibility as major countries and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. China and Brazil share a highly compatible vision in diplomacy, and the bilateral relationship bears important strategic significance and global influence. Both sides will strengthen communication and collaboration so as to safeguard the common interests of developing countries, promote an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and build a community with a shared future between China and Brazil as well as a community with a shared future between China and Latin America. China fully supports Brazil in hosting the G20 Leaders' Summit, the BRICS Summit and the United Nations Climate Change Conference.
