On January 30, 2024, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhao Leji met with President of the Congress and Senate of Colombia Iván Leonidas Name Vásquez and President of the Chamber of Representatives of Colombia Andrés David Calle Aguas in Beijing.

Zhao Leji said that President Xi Jinping and President Gustavo Petro jointly announced the establishment of the China-Colombia strategic partnership last October, opening a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations. China is ready to work with Colombia to follow through on the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state and contribute to the long-term development of the China-Colombia strategic partnership. China appreciates Colombia's long-term adherence to the one-China principle and is ready to deepen practical cooperation in various fields. He expressed the hope that the two sides will jointly advocate an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind. The legislative bodies of the two countries should play their functional roles in creating a sound legal environment for strengthening trade and investment cooperation and expanding personnel exchanges.

Iván Leonidas Name Vásquez and Andrés David Calle Aguas said that Colombia firmly adheres to the one-China principle. Colombia hopes to learn from China's development experience, strengthen exchanges between legislative bodies, and promote dynamic and friendly relations between the two countries.
