On January 19, 2022, Director-General of the Department of External Security Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Bai Tian and Director of the Department of New Challenges and Threats of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Special Envoy of the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs on International Cooperation on Countering Terrorism Vladimir Tarabrin held a director-general-level consultation on counter-terrorism and security between Chinese and Russian foreign ministries via video link. The two sides mainly exchanged in-depth views on issues such as international and regional counter-terrorism situation, and China-Russia counter-terrorism and security cooperation.

Bai Tian said, under the leadership and guidance of the two heads of state, the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era is at its best in history and is moving forward to a higher level. Strengthening strategic coordination between China and Russia in the field of counter-terrorism and security is of great significance to safeguarding the security interests of the two countries and leading the right direction of international counter-terrorism cooperation. China stands ready to strengthen strategic communication and policy coordination with Russia on counter-terrorism and security, and jointly safeguard international and regional security and stability.

Tarabrin said, Russia and China share highly aligned positions in the field of counter-terrorism and security, and it is quite necessary to hold this consultation against the backdrop of the rapidly changing international and regional situation. Russia is willing to work with China to further enhance communication and coordination with China, strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation on counter-terrorism and security, promote the building of an international united front against terrorism, and jointly address the threat of terrorism.
