BRICS Countries Hold Foreign Ministry Spokespersons’ Consultation

On 25 May, Assistant Minister and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hua Chunying chaired the BRICS Foreign Ministry Spokespersons’ Consultation. The consultation was attended by Spokesperson and Deputy Director-General of Public Diplomacy of the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation Clayson Monyela, Special Press Adviser of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Adriano Pucci, Spokesperson and Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova, and Director of the External Publicity and Public Diplomacy Division of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Rajesh Uike.

The parties exchanged views on enhancing exchanges and cooperation in press-related work, and agreed that faced with growing uncertainties and instabilities in the international situation, BRICS countries, as a positive and constructive force for good, need to step up communication, coordination, solidarity and cooperation, and make BRICS voices heard more and louder. They agreed on the need to speak out louder against illegal unilateral sanctions, bloc confrontation, disinformation and double standards, and uphold true multilateralism, equity and justice. They agreed to work for bigger say and influence of BRICS in the international arena, better represent and safeguard the common interests of BRICS countries and the wider developing world, and play an even greater role in promoting world peace and development.

The parties agreed to cooperate closely in support of a successful 14th BRICS Summit hosted by China.
