On July 24, 2014, China's Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue Wu Sike, during his visit to Qatar, met with Khaled Meshal, the Chief of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) of Palestine, in Doha, working on ending the present Palestine-Israel conflict.

Wu Sike said that China has been deeply concerned and saddened over the present Palestine-Israel conflict which has caused a large number of casualties and heavy property losses, as well as the rapid worsening of humanitarian situation, and condemns any abuse of forces. Currently the most pressing task is to cease fire and stop violence. China hopes that the parties concerned actively respond to the ceasefire proposal and mediation efforts from the international community. China is committed to maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East and actively promotes peace talks. China is willing to do anything that is conducive to reaching an early ceasefire and contact anyone who might facilitate an early ceasefire. Meanwhile China empathizes with the humanitarian pains the Palestinian people including those in Gaza are suffering from, and has been and will continue to provide available assistance, within its own capacity, to Palestine including Gaza.

Meshal said that Hamas appreciates China's position to firmly support the just cause of the Palestinian people and thanks China for its great efforts to promote Palestine-Israel ceasefire and ease the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Hamas hopes to realize an early ceasefire on the basis of lifting the blockade of Gaza and paying attention to the Palestinian people's legal rights.
