Special Envoy of Chinese Foreign Ministry on Afghan Affairs Sun Yuxi Meets with Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry of Pakistan

On July 26, 2014, Special Envoy of the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Afghan Affairs Sun Yuxi, who was on his visit to Pakistan, met with Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry of Pakistan in Islamabad. Both sides exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan and so on.

Chaudhry congratulated Sun Yuxi serving as Special Envoy, and appreciated the long-term efforts that the Chinese side has made to help Afghanistan with peaceful reconstruction and maintaining regional peace and stability. Chaudhry expressed that this year is a critical year for the development of the situation in Afghanistan. The Pakistani side hopes that Afghanistan can achieve a smooth transition as soon as possible after the general election and stands ready to work with the Chinese side to continue to play a positive role in realizing lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Special Envoy Sun Yuxi expressed that the Chinese side hopes to see a united, stable, developing and amicable Afghanistan and is willing to provide assistance within its capability to realize Afghanistan's smooth transition and long-term peace and stability. The Pakistani side has made important contribution to promoting lasting peace and stability of Afghanistan and the region. The Chinese side stands ready to maintain communication with the Pakistani side, strengthen coordination and continue to make efforts to solve the Afghan issue.
